Phosphorus is an essential macronutrient required by phytoplankton for growth and proliferation in the ocean. Dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DOP), as a major reservoir of dissolved phosphorus, plays an important ecological strategy for algae success especially in the dissolved inorganic phosphorus difficient marine systems. In the natural marine environment, DOP exists in many chemical forms, phytoplankton has developed many kinds of different DOP utilization mechanisms. The aim of this study was to provide integrated insights into the molecular mechanisms of different forms DOP utilization in a marine model diatom P. tricornutum by transcriptome sequencing.
