Areas of significant impact of floods

Areas of significant impact of floods are flood areas where there is a potential for significant adverse effects on human health, the environment, cultural heritage and economic activities and represent areas with the highest potential damage in the event of flooding. In accordance with the Waters Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No 67/02 and amendments) and the Decree on the content and method of drawing up a more detailed flood risk reduction plan (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No 7/10), the designation of areas is important for the preparation of a more detailed flood risk reduction plan. The criteria for the definition of flooding areas are defined in the Rules on the methodology for determining areas at risk from floods and associated erosion of inland waters and the sea, and on the method of classifying land into risk classes (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 60/07) and take into account (inter alia): — flood hazard class, — population density of endangered areas, — areas where installations or installations are operated which may result in large-scale pollution, — the existence of other sensitive facilities, — threat from potential contamination of important protected habitats and species, pollution of drinking water sources, bathing areas.
