VPRS 7541 Discharge Warrants

This series consists of discharge warrants. Discharge warrants are the official documents which authorised the discharge of patients by the various ways described below.A patient could be discharged from an Asylum by the following means:by the request of the person who signed the original admission order, with the consent of the Chief Secretary.by certificate of a doctor while on trial leave.by order of the Chief Secretarythe Inspector and Official Visitors could recommend a person's discharge to the Chief Secretary.by recommendation of the Asylum's Superintendent.by order of a Judge of the Supreme Court.Prior to 1867 the Governor was responsible for authorising the discharge of patients. From 1903 the Inspector General of the Insane was responsible.Some orders include medical certificates. This series includes orders for the removal of patients from one hospital to another and includes some correspondence relating to patients.
