Molecular diversity of fungi in hypersaline stratified lakes from Romania

This study aims to explore the microbial diversity of two hypersaline meromictic inland lakes from Romania (Ursu and Fara Fund) through a different lens (fungi) that can ultimately unravel the complexity of these unique habitats. Therefore, the spatial variations in fungal communities, their functional roles, and the environmental variables that shape them, were assessed by high-throughput amplicon sequencing approach (18S and ITS2), performed on lake sediments, water samples collected along depth profiles, as well as soil to evaluate terrestrial inputs.
