资源简介:
This archive comprises images, site records, text, vector and laser scanning data from a historic building recording at the former William Rowland Ltd site, 9-13 Meadow Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire. This work was undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in August and October 2024 and January 2025. The historic building recording took the form of a photographic survey supplemented by floor plan drawings generated from a laser scan metric survey. The former William Rowland Ltd buildings were built in the mid 20th century between 1948 and 1967, with at least one phase of construction around 195860, and were designed by the Sheffield architects Elden, Minns amp; Co Ltd. However, Buildings 3 and 6 and the brick boundary wall along Edward Street incorporated multiple phases of older brickwork which have been interpretated as remnants of the early 18th and 19th-century buildings that used to stand on the site. A large workshop space used for refined metal processing encompassed Building 2, Building 9, the ground floor of Building 3 and part of Building 1, with further workshop/warehouse spaces in the north and south sheds of Buildings 4-5 and 6. The offices were largely contained on the first floor, with storerooms, kitchen canteen, and toilet and shower facilities on both floors within Buildings 1 and 3.
