Insect Count in Quadrat Dataset

The data for “Insect Count in Quadrat Dataset ” was collected on Friday October 3 2014 from 15:00-15:45 at the Keele Campus of York University in Toronto, Ontario. Weather conditions included persistent, heavy, stormy cloud cover, persistent, heavy rainfall and moderately windy conditions. The temperature recorded was approximately 16 degrees. A 1x1m quadrat was placed in a randomly selected location on the ground in the grassland area by the researcher. The abundance of individual insects, total number of species and the identification of the taxonomic group(s) present in the quadrat were observed and recorded by the researcher. Best efforts were made by the researcher to avoid miscounting (i.e. counting an individual twice). Chances for miscounting errors in the data are likely, however. Nine repetitions of quadrat sampling were made in the grassland area, giving a total of ten unique grassland data samples. The process of collecting data from randomly placed quadrats was consequently repeated ten times in the adjacent woodland area.
