The objective of this study is to overcome the shortcomings of the existing technology and provide a method to construct a toxicity warning system for electroautotrophic oxygen reduction bicathode sensor. The application scope of the MEC sensor will be extended to aerobic and autotrophic toxicity warning by optimizing acclimation method of the biocathode and employing electroautotrophic oxygen reduction biocathode as the sensing element. The main contents of this paper are as follows: using polarity reversal method to construct electroautotrophic oxygen reduction biocathode sensor, and exploring the effects of different inoculated sources on the electrochemical performance of MES anode and cathode and microbial community structure; The feasibility of the bicathode sensor was verified by using the bicathode sensor as the sensitive element and formaldehyde as the model toxicant, and the early warning and monitoring of the emerging toxic substances in water were investigated.
