Concentration, international competition and productivity of manufacturing firms in Cameroon

Our data come from two sources: Cameroon’s general enterprise censuses and the World Bank Enterprise Surveys (WBES). Our analysis uses detailed firm-level data from Cameroon’s general enterprise censuses collected in 2009 and 2016 by the National Institute of Statistics. The census measures the economic activity of private firms in fixed locations. It collects information on firm sales, value added, number of workers, value of fixed capital, firm characteristics, profile of the managers. Census data makes it possible to measure domestic concentration (through the concentration index), while data from the WBES provide information on international competition (exports) and many others (TIC, FDI, experience, etc.).
