Methodology: Land use classifications were assigned at the parcel level and merged into broader categories such as pastoral, dairy, forestry, conservation, arable, and urban land uses. The most up to date available data was used to produce this using the 2018 method. Data Collection and Sources: This layer was constructed using a combination of multiple national and local datasets, including: LINZ Primary Parcel Data - Legal land parcel boundaries are used as a spatial base for mapping. Environment Southland Resource Consent Database - Used for dairy effluent consents (milking platform areas) and industrial discharge areas. AgriBase™ survey data from AsureQuality Ltd. Environment Southland Rates Database - Identifies residential, commercial, industrial, recreational, public use, lifestyle, and forestry blocks in urban and rural areas. Department of Conservation protected areas – this layer is maintained by LINZ. QEII National Trust Covenants areas - spatial information on covenanted land areas used in mapping conservation land.
