Supporting data-driven decision of municipality: A case of mapping rooftop farming using geospatial technology

This dataset documents high-resolution mapping of rooftop farming in Banepa Municipality, Nepal, combining UAV imagery with OpenStreetMap (OSM) citizen science contributions. A custom-built fixed-wing UAV was used to acquire aerial imagery on 15 April 2022, which was processed into orthophotos with 3 cm spatial resolution using WebODM software and a supercomputer. The resulting orthophotos were hosted on OpenAerialMap (OAM) to provide an accessible base layer for mapping. Mapping tasks were deployed on the OSM Tasking Manager, with specific tags developed for building footprints, rooftop farms, solar panels, water tanks, and rooftop structures. University students were recruited as volunteer mappers to digitize features using the JOSM editor, contributing to a rich, high-resolution spatial dataset. The dataset is structured in TIFF and ESRI shapefile formats and is suitable for urban agriculture monitoring, sustainable city planning, and participatory GIS research.
