Our results further revealed that the increasing biological N fixation rates along the altitudinal gradients driven by abiotic (i.e., high organic carbon) and biotic (i.e., key diazotrophic taxa) factors greatly benefited to N enrichment at high altitudes. The acidic-tolerant Bradyrhizobium, plant-associated Herbaspirillum and Klebsilla were identified as the key diazotrophic taxa responsible for active N fixation rate at high altitude zones.
