These are the data corresponding to the publication <i>"Leaf heat tolerance of 147 tropical forest species varies with elevation and leaf functional traits, but not with phylogeny</i>" by Slot, Cala, Aranda, Virgo, Michaletz and Winter, published in Plant, Cell & Environment in 2021.Samples were collected from plants growing in six regions in the Republic of Panama. Leaf discs were incubated for 15 minutes at different temperatures in a water bath, and after 24 hours the maximum over variable chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm) was measured. Species names were checked against Kew's Plants of the World database, at: http://powo.science.kew.org/<br><br><br><br><br>
