Impact of Treatments on Soil Microbes with Transgenic Maize Straw

This project aims to study the effects of transgenic maize straw return on soil microbial communities. It evaluates the ecological impact of different straw treatment methods (mulching and deep plowing) and treatment timings on soil ecosystems. Using high-throughput metagenomic sequencing, we analyzed the structure and functional gene expression of soil microbial communities after the straw return of transgenic maize (2A-7 and CM8101) and their non-transgenic counterparts (B73 and Zheng58). Soil samples were collected at different time points (30, 180, and 270 days) after mulching or deep plowing treatments.
