The Berlin Pulse - After the US Election 2024

The study After the 2024 US Election, part of the annual series “The Berlin Pulse,” was conducted by Verian on behalf of the Körber Foundation. During the survey period from November 7, 2024, to November 8, 2024, eligible voters in Germany were interviewed by telephone (CATI) on the following topics: Germany´s most important partner, transatlantic relations, assessment of the impact of Donald Trump´s re-election in the US presidential election, recommendations for action for Germany, and the future development of the international significance of the US. Respondents were selected using a multi-stage random sample including landline and mobile phone numbers (dual-frame sample). With a view to possible early federal elections: potential chancellor candidates with the greatest foreign policy expertise (Friedrich Merz, Robert Habeck, Olaf Scholz, Alice Weidel, Sahra Wagenknecht); currently the most important partner country for German foreign policy; assessment of the impact of Donald Trump´s re-election in the US presidential election on relations between Germany and the US; agreement with the following statements regarding the outcome of the US elections (The outcome of the US elections threatens political stability in Europe, Germany should prioritize cooperation with its European partner countries, Germany should expand cooperation with countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, Germany should invest more money in European security, If the US under Donald Trump withdraws as the leading nation of the West, Germany should assume this role); expected development of the international significance of the US over the next four years under Donald Trump (will increase, decrease, or remain unchanged); party preference in the federal election (Sunday question). Demography: sex; age; education. Additional variables coded: respondent ID; federal state; region (west/east); political municipality size class; weighting factor.
