SUP Nuclear Disposal Programs

SUP Nuclear Waste Management Programme, Hungary National Waste Management Programme — Technical Opinion. Council Directive 2011/70/Euratom “establishing a Community framework for the responsible and safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste” requires members of the European Union to draw up national programmes for the management of their spent fuel and radioactive waste. These programmes must cover all stages of disposal. The establishment of such a national management programme also falls within the scope of Directive 2001/42/EC as amended ‘on the assessment of the environmental effects of certain plans and programmes’. A strategic environmental assessment under Hungarian law is now being carried out for the National Waste Management Programme in Hungary. The competent authority for the National Waste Management Programme and the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is the Hungarian Ministry of National Development.
