Hurricane Dorian Survey Southeast U.S.

An online survey targeted1,000 residents of coastal areas of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina in order to assess the key variables of interest. Participants were asked about the relative importance of varying media, sources of first alerts, perceptions of information adequacy, mitigation efforts and damage to their homes, coping strategies, and emotional responses. They were also evaluated in terms of their tendency toward rumination and their trait need for cognition. The aim is to investigate whether particular media dependencies are related to successful mitigation outcomes, and whether or not these outcomes are moderated by individual level information processing characteristics.
