This dataset represents de-identified post-trial survey responses from
participants in either control or treatment groups for the Fall 2024
shared micromobility (SMM) pricing trial launched in partnership with SPIN
in Davis, CA. The trial sought to understand the potential effect of a new
flat rate pricing plan on users' demand for SMM. We designed new flat
rate plans with two different minute caps (15 minutes and 25 minutes) and
three different pricing levels ($1.75, $2.50, and $3.25); SPIN randomly
selected 1,164 current SMM users and assigned them to one of the six new
pricing plans (two minute caps x three price levels). Those assigned to a
treatment group could choose to use the assigned new flat rate pricing
plan or any existing plan for each trip during the trial period. We
analyzed users’ SMM trip frequency before and during the trial. The
post-trial survey collected information about general socio-demographic
characteristics (e.g., race, gender, income) and any life events that may
have influenced respondents’ typical use of SPIN services. Additional
questions assessed awareness of the promotional flat rate pricing,
preferences between e-bikes and e-scooters, and perceptions of SPIN device
availability.
