State of Wildfires 2025-26: Physical Asset Exposure to Wildfire

We compute physical asset exposure following an event-based fire-exposure framework. The physical asset exposure layer is created using the approach described by Eberenz et al. (2020). The resulting exposure dataset, LitPop, spatially distributes nationally produced capital estimates using night-light intensity and population density at an annual scale on a 1 km grid. We then intersect this exposure layer with the same filtered Global Fire Atlas wildland-fire perimeters used for the population exposure analysis (GFA version 20260408), following the event-based approach of Teymoor Seydi et al. (2025). Asset exposure indicates the value of assets located within filtered wildland-fire perimeters and does not imply damage or loss.
