A thorough understanding of the optimal nanoparticle size and surface ligand density to maximise blood-brain barrier penetration is still lacking. This thesis investigates how these factors influence blood-brain barrier targetability and penetration ability of nanoparticles. It identifies optimal parameters for nanoparticle size and surface ligand density in blood-brain barrier penetration using a microfluidic chip model. In addition, it highlights some potential chemotherapy applications using these optimised nanoparticles.
