The red seaweed Pyropia yezoensis has the haploid-diploid heteromorphic life cycle. As a characteristic, gametophyte generation is not produced via meitosis, although most of seaweeds and terrestrial plants require meiosis to generate gametophyte. The aim of the project is to understand such a unique system in P. yezoensis.
