List of accredited Black high schools built in the Jim Crow South between 1900 and 1940 with information on school curriculum, location, and founding date

This dataset contains 1,481 accredited Black high schools built in the Jim Crow South between 1900 and 1940, containing information on a school's founding date, location, and curriculum. Schools are classified as either academic or technical based on the school's curriculum. This dataset is the first of its kind and combines the 1949 and 1928 lists of accredited schools published by the Office of Education along with the 1927 Howard University Yearbook, which recorded information on where its students went to high school. Schools were hand-classified as academic or technical using a variety of different sources, including the Historical Marker Database, Rosenwald school databases, school websites that publish the school's history, news articles that do profiles on schools, and obituary records.
