In Taiwan, Neanotis formosana (Hayata) Lewis. has been identified as N. hirsuta (L. f.) Lewis.
In this paper, we clarify the identify of N. formosana in the flora of Taiwan and further document
N. hirsuta in Taiwan. Neanotis formosana is characterized by a terminal inflorescence, cyme,
2~10-flowered in fascicles with peduncles 5~10 mm long; and flowers > 5 mm wide. Neanotis hirsuta
has an axillary inflorescence, rarely terminal, 1~4-flowered, with peduncles 0~3 mm long; and
flowers < 3 mm wide. Taxonomic treatment, line drawings, and photographs are provided herein.
