An urban area or “large urban area” is a group of municipalities, of a single contiguous and enclave, consisting of an urban pole (urban unit) with more than 10,000 jobs, and by rural municipalities or urban units (periurban crown) of which at least 40 % of the resident population in employment works in the pole or in municipalities attracted by it. Zoning in urban areas 2010 also distinguishes: — ‘medium areas’, a group of municipalities, of a single enclave and without an enclave, consisting of a cluster (urban unit) of 5 000 to 10 000 jobs, and by rural municipalities or urban units of which at least 40 % of the resident population in employment works in the pole or in municipalities attracted by it. — ‘small areas’, a group of municipalities, of a single enclave and without an enclave, consisting of a cluster (urban unit) of 1 500 to 5 000 jobs, and by rural municipalities or urban units of which at least 40 % of the resident population in employment works in the pole or in municipalities attracted by it. Zoning is based on 2008 census data. The list of municipalities is that given by the Official Geographical Code (COG) on 01/01/2011.
