Japanese knotweed (Reynoutria japonica) is a polyploid, clonally reproducing invasive species that has been notoriously successful worldwide despite supposedly very low genetic diversity. This study analyzed the genetic makeup of the species complex that includes invasive Japanese knotweed in North America to understand the genetic structure that gives rise to its invasiveness. We used Genotyping-by-Sequencing to collect over 12,000 SNP markers from 38 locations across North America for the Japanese knotweed species complex.
