PfGCN5, a global regulator of stress responsive genes, modulates artemisinin resistance in Plasmodium falciparum

We examined the genome wide binding of PfGCN5 (with the help of two antibodies raised against C and N terminal end of the protein) during normal conditions and different stress conditions. With the help of ChIP sequencing results we were able to show that PfGCN5 is enriched at gene related to virulence and stress response. Interestingly we found PfGCN5 enrichment on genes responsible for emergence of resistance during artemisinin treatment. These findings helps in understanding the regulation of stress response in Plasmodium which is crucial for emergence of artemisinin resistance.
