We studied odorant receptors (ORs) in the larvae of cotton leafworm Spodoptera littoralis that are differentially expressed in the first and fourth instar. Differential expression of ORs during larval development reflects on instar-specific dietary requirements. The finding is likely to improve our understanding of the role of odorant receptors mediating food preferences during larval development.
