资源简介:
The study addresses the question of why some challenges to the territorial unity of democratic states are more tractable than others. The study analyzes this question in the context of post-independence India by tracking the trajectory of territorial demands of subnational actors over time and analyzing the determinants of demand resilience. The data refer to all subnational political actors (parties and nonparty groups) active in India between 1952 and 2002 on which information was available at the time of publication of the study. The variables included in the analysis refer to the characteristics of the subnational political actors (official worldview, the type and change over time of their territorial demands, their siize, their use of violence), state responses (whether the state used repression or accommodation), and the characteristics of the territorial unit within the Indian Union where actors operated (geographical position, administrative standing, religious composition of the population, average income).
