Lolium rigidum Gaud. (L. rigidum, Poaceae, Rigid Ryegrass) is a widespread monocotyledonous weed distributed in natural populations all around the Mediterranean, the Middle East and the Indian-subcontinent. It is an important component of pastures and is a major weed in the pasture-cereal crop rotation system in Australia. The cross and multiple resistance of L. rigidum to different herbicide groups is well documented. L. rigidum plants were identified with target site resistance against seven different herbicide groups. In order to explore the molecular background of herbicide resistance RNAseq analysis of L. rigidum plants was performed using a NextSeq 500 (Illumina, USA) sequencing platform.Bromus tectorum L. (B. tectorum, Poaceae, Downy Brome) is an invasive annual weed found in arable fields of North America, central Asia and in many European countries. As a consequence of the use of herbicides numerous Bromus populations have been confirmed to be herbicide resistant. B. tectorum has a great plasticity to the resistant genotype maintenance through occasional out-crossing and by inducing genotypic variability and adaptation. The aim of our work was to identify herbicide target genes in B. tectorum. To this end Illumina sequencing on a NextSeq 500 platform and comprehensive bioinformatics analysis of B. tectorum samples was performed.Sorghum halepense L. (S. halepense, Poaceae, Johnsongrass) is a C4 perennial monocotyledonous weed. It occurs in all major agricultural areas in the warm regions of the world. The extensively growing rhizomes and the high rate of seed production contribute to successful invasion and difficult eradication of this weed. S. halepense populations show resistance to several classes of herbicide groups, including multiple resistance as well. In order to explore the molecular background of resistance to AHAS-inhibitors and to identify herbicide target genes RNAseq analysis of resistant individuals was performed using the Illumina NextSeq500 technology.
