Disruption of normal expression level or lost of genes during sex chromosome evolution would cause imbalance between sexes on gene expression or gene dosage, which usually affect the fitness of species. Many organisms have evolved dosage compensation to equalized the gene expression between sexes and between sex chromosomes and autosomes. However, information of dosage compensation effect in species with younger sex chromosomes is limited, especially in plants. Here, wWe investigated whether dosage compensation operated is evolved in Carica papaya, a plant species with young sex chromosomes that derived 7 MYA ago.
