VPRS 6989 Register of Appointments to Mining District Positions

This volume records information relating to staff appointed to positions within various mining districts including  their position, details as to their wages, any promotions or demotions, allowances, job transfers, temporary and permanent appointments and resignations. It also includes extracts from Victorian Government Gazettes relating to appointments and mining statutes. Also contained at the end of this volume is information which is recorded on double page spreads. On one page of each spread are: names of employees, the office in which they worked, the date of entry in service (which has not been filled in), and their salary. One the facing page the information recorded is : the amount of guarantee (pounds), the insurance offices, (e.g. Colonial Mutual Fire Insurance & Co.), and remarks (if needed). It is unclear whether any other registers of this type were created. This series was originally titled Book of Appointments and Promotions by service providers. An evaluation of the supplied documentation in 2025 amended both the series title and series description..
