School history database of Helsinki

The City of Helsinki School Register contains information on the schools of Helsinki since its founding (since 1550). The School Register is a joint project between the City Archives of the City of Helsinki and the Education and Education sector. You can browse the school register at https://koulurekisteri.hel.fi/. The register contains items relevant to the functioning of schools, such as changes in the names of schools, locations and information on the type of school at different times. The register also contains information on school-related events, such as mergers and resignations. The register also contains information related to school owners and founders, information related to school buildings, as well as information on the number of classes and the location of school archives. The names of school principals are stored in the school register, but for data protection reasons only the names of the principals who worked more than a hundred years ago are available. The register does not contain information about individual students or teachers. The information in the school register is compiled from archive sources and literature. Up-to-date information on schools will be added to the register at the beginning of the semesters. The historical data will be supplemented and corrected as necessary.
