In the wake of lively interests that Leonardo had shown for botany applied to painting and beyond, of his extraordinary scientific insights linked to the study of the plant world and the ecological vision of nature in general, the present contribution focuses on pharmaceutical herbalism, an area that had aroused the stimulating curiosity of the genius of Vinci. The survey, contextualized to the debate developed in the old regime on the controversial dietetic value of plants, using above all the specialist treatises of the time, dwells in particular on the various ways of using edible herbs, at the center of various interests between social value, gastronomic uses and therapeutic purposes.
