Preference/trait equilibria with no costs of choice and paternal mutation

This figure shows the equilibria from a quantitative genetic model of sexual selection with age-dependent paternal mutation. In this case there are no costs of preference. Here we see two equilibrium preferences, one smaller and one larger than the equilibrium trait size. When the equilibrium preference is larger than the equilibrium preference we should expect standing variation in condition and the trait due to mutation-selection balance, and female mate choice for good genes in older males. There is also an equilibrium preference smaller than the equilibrium trait, which is likely unstable, although further analysis is required.
