Soil and root-associated microbial communities under widespread trees across Europe

This is a large-scale field study dataset of 16S and ITS2 DNA meta-barcoding of soil and root-associated bacteria and fungi from the root and soil microbiomes of forest trees from 3 different broadleaf genera (Alnus, Betula, and Sorbus) from 18 forest sites across a European latitudinal gradient. The first part of the sample ID e.g. 'AUD' refers to the site, the second part e.g. 'SA5' refers to the tree species and individual tree replicate per site, and the third part e.g. 'BR' refers to the sample type (roots or soil and bacteria or fungi), BR = bacteria from roots, FR = fungi from roots, BS = bacteria from soil, and FS = fungi from soil.
