Soil Microbiome of Banana under Different Organic Amendments

This study investigated the effects of four organic amendments commonly used in banana cultivation in the Canary Islands on soil microbial communities and soil health indicators. A two-year greenhouse experiment was conducted over a complete banana crop cycle, including treatments with cow manure, chicken manure, compost, pelletized compost, and an unamended control. Soil samples were collected at multiple time points to assess chemical properties, microbial activity, and community composition.Microbial community analysis was performed by amplicon sequencing of bacterial 16S rRNA genes and fungal ITS regions. Sequence data were used to characterize alpha and beta diversity, identify taxonomic composition, and assess treatment-related differences in community structure.
