Visual Quality – Identity and singularity

This layer shows the results obtained in the matrix of assessment of quality/fragility included in the Landscape Studies of the Region of Murcia for each of the Homogeneous Landscape Units in which the Region is subdivided. The results obtained in the evaluation matrix of quality/fragility value the “Fragility of a Landscape” as the potential of a Landscape to absorb changes or actions induced by man or be visually altered, without degrading its essential characteristics. Coinciding with the approval of the European Landscape Convention, on 20 October 2000 in Florence, the Regional Ministry that had the competences in the field of spatial planning of the Region of Murcia, initiated the drafting of Landscape Studies of sub-regional scope, which would serve as support for the drafting of Guidelines and Territorial Planning Plans that, in the same areas, were to begin immediately. During the period 2001-2007, seven Landscape Studies were drafted in the following territorial areas: 1.- Metropolitan Area of Murcia (Huerta de Murcia and Vega Media), 2.- South Coast, 3.- Northwest, 4.- Altiplano, 5.- Río Mula, Vega Alta, Valle de Ricote and Oriental, 6.- Campo de Murcia, Cartagena and Mar Menor, 7.- Guadalentín Valley. In 2009 the Atlas of Landscapes of the Region of Murcia was published, as a compendium of the set of Landscape Studies.
