V2672 Oph: an Old Nova with a Luminous and Absorbed X-ray Emission
收藏资源简介:
Our recent Chandra observation shows that V2672 Oph (Nova Ophiuchi 2009) is abright Xray source in quiescence, several orders of magnitudes more luminousthan ordinary nonmagnetic cataclysmic variables. This confirms the tentativeassociation of a ROSAT allsky survey source with V2672 Oph, making it the thirdnova with preeruption Xray detection. It had one of the shortest decay timesand the broadest emission lines ever observed in novae, and is therefore verylikely to be a recurrent nova. Here we propose a followup XMMNewtonobservation of V2672 Oph designed to secure virgul10 times more source photons thanwere obtained with Chandra, so as to characterize its Xray spectrum and timingproperties, as a part of a broader study of mass accretion in confirmed and candidate recurrent novae. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
