Organizational survey on food system sustainability in seven European cities

ORGANIZATIONAL SURVEY ON FOOD SYSTEMS IN SEVEN EUROPEAN CITIES, 2025De-identified microdata, version 1.0 FILES- survey_data_deidentified.csv : data (852 rows, 602 columns). WHAT THE DATA AREResponses to an online questionnaire (Qualtrics) sent to organizations active in local food systems (businesses, cooperatives,associations, foundations, public entities) in Bologna, Brighton, Cologne, Geneva, Lille, Tartu and Uppsala. Fieldwork ran fromJanuary to March 2025. Questionnaire languages: Italian, English, German, French, Estonian, Swedish. Each row is one organization(the respondent answered on behalf of the organization). Rows per city: Uppsala 266, Geneva 180, Tartu 104, Cologne 99, Bologna 97,Brighton 71, Lille 35. Response status: 676 complete, 175 incomplete but usable, 1 self-reported outside the city but consideredactive in it by the local team. Duplicate or near-duplicate entries were resolved by the research team and merged where necessary(rules in the codebook, column "Merge rules"). CONTENTOrganization type, age and geographic scope; food-related activities and actor types; agreement scales on the functioning of thefood system and on decision-making; issues perceived as most damaging (own operations and overall); advocacy activities and topics;collaborative ties with 20 categories of organizations; awareness of and participation in local initiatives; size, internaldecision-making, budget range and funding sources; survey paradata (response status, duration, page timing, distribution channel,questionnaire language, response dates). SPECIAL CODES90 = other; 91-95 = multiple other fields; 96 = shown but left unanswered; 97 = not applicable; 98 = prefer not to answer;99 = don't know; empty cell = question not shown to the respondent. Columns ending in _90_rc (or _90_rc1 to _90_rc5) hold the numericcode of the closed-ended option into which an open "other" answer was recoded by the research team. WHAT WAS REMOVED BEFORE DEPOSITOrganization names, IP addresses, latitude and longitude, and every verbatim free-text field (all columns whose name contains"TEXT", including postcodes and the names of local initiatives). The optional open comments and contact details collected at the endof the questionnaire were never part of this file. The only edit to the remaining values is that spreadsheet error tokens (#DIV/0!)in a few timing columns were set to missing (12 cells). ETHICS AND ACCESSData collection was approved by a university research ethics committee, and respondents consented to the use of their anonymisedanswers in research, including sharing with other researchers. The file contains no names, contact details, free text orinformation on the individual who completed the questionnaire, and geography stops at city level. Even so, records of organizationscan be distinctive: users must not attempt to identify respondents or organizations, alone or by linking with other sources.Files are under embargo until 1 November 2027. Before that date access is granted only through the private access links issued by thedepositors.
