Digital Archive from an Archaeological Evaluation at 10 Old Market Place, Sudbury, Suffolk, October 2024

This collection comprises images, site records, survey drawings and project brief from an archaeological evaluation at 10 Old Market Place, Sudbury, Suffolk. Work was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in October 2024. The archaeological evaluation (one L-shaped trench) was carried out in advance of a new residential development. Located within the historic town centre, the site lies in an area of archaeological potential recorded on the Suffolk County Historic Environment Record (HER), within the Saxon and Medieval settlement core of Sudbury (HER number SUY 040). Archaeological investigations in the vicinity have revealed evidence of medieval and early post medieval activity including possible buildings. The evaluation uncovered a Victorian wall foundation and drain/drain sump along with two pits of a similar date.
