The product “Traffic Separation Devices” contains a description of STDs in French maritime areas. A DST is a traffic organisation system designed to separate opposite traffic flows by appropriate means, including the establishment of traffic corridors. The measures taken aim to improve the safety of navigation in areas where it is threatened by traffic density associated with various natural difficulties. Several classes of objects make up this product, the acronyms used are those of IHO Standard S-57: — Traffic lanes (TSSLPT): sections within which traffic takes place in an established direction; — Traffic separation device limits (TSSBND): the outer limits of a traffic corridor or a traffic separation device roundabout; — Traffic separation lines (TSELNE): dividing lines between two traffic corridors or between a traffic corridor and a coastal navigation area; — Traffic separation zones (TSEZNE): areas of separation between two traffic corridors or between a traffic corridor and a coastal navigation area or a central area of a roundabout; — Coastal navigation zones (ISTZNE): areas between the land-side boundary of a traffic separation device and the coast; — Precautionary zones (PRCARE): areas with defined limits, where vessels must sail with special attention, and within which the direction of traffic may be recommended; — Deep-sea road sections (DWRTPT): sections within which traffic is carried out either in a direction established for one-way traffic or in an established direction and the opposite direction for two-way traffic. A deep-sea road is a regulated road within specified limits and which has been subject to precise hydrographic surveys to ensure a certain height of water above the bottom and submerged objects; — Double-way roads (TWRTPT): sections within which traffic takes place in two opposite directions along a bearing. These sections are usually two-way, but some may be one-way; — Radio call lines (RDOCAL_lne): positions where ships are required to contact a traffic control centre.
