Fungal ITS and bacterial 16S profile of forestall and contaminated soils collected from 14 experimental mesocosms left outdoors on the terrace of the Department of Biology of the University of Naples Federico II (Italy) and exposed to weather conditions. Five mesocosms, were covered by plastic mulching (polyethylene); the others five mesocosms were covered by bioplastic mulching (MaterBi) and the last four mesocosms were uncovered considered as control. Before the placement of bio- and plastic mulching (January 2021: T0), after six months (July 2021: T2) and twelve months (January 2022: T3) after the placement of mulching, surface soils were collected from each of the 14 mesocosms. The total DNA was extracted and both the fungal ITS2 region and V4 region sequenced on Illumina Miseq.
