South African health and emergency services

The South African health and emergency services OpenStreetMap (OSM) extracted dataset was developed for the Climate Risk Tool within the South African Risk and Vulnerability Atlas (SARVA). The dataset maps all health and emergency facilities across South Africa, including clinics, hospitals, doctors' practices, police stations, and fire stations etc, using data extracted from OSM. This dataset supports the assessment of service accessibility and availability at the local municipal level. Within the Risk Profiler framework, it contributes to the Quality of Life Index by evaluating residents access to essential health and emergency services. The availability and accessibility of these critical facilities serve as an important proxy for overall well-being, safety, and community resilience within municipalities. All processing scripts used to generate this dataset are included in the download package for transparency and reproducibility.
