Yearly California kelp canopy surveys from 2002 - 2006, 2008 - 2010, and 2013 - 2016 were each rasterized at a 5m cell size using a Boolean raster with presence/absence values (e.g. 1 or 0). The resulting raster grids were added together using a raster calculator resulting in a raster with counts (value) of how many yearly instances where kelp was present in that cell over the period of all the surveys. An additional attribute indicating administrative kelp bed number was added.
