Bio-guided purification of compounds from South African medicinal plants traditionally used to treat inflammation

Bio-guided identification and purification of anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory compounds from South African medicinal plants traditionally used to treat inflammation, with structural elucidation using UPLC-MS and NMR. This study applied solid-phase extraction (SPE) fractionation, coupled with high-throughput screening of extracts and fractions using advanced analytical tools, to isolate bioactive metabolites. From a list of 51 medicinal plants, three promising species were selected for further purification using HPLC-based methods. The compounds were identified using UPLC-QTOF-MS analysis, followed by comprehensive structural elucidation using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
