We analyzed the genome size (GS) of S. sphacelata complex accessions from the Embrapa Dairy Cattle germplasm bank. Flow cytometry was performed on accessions collected worldwild with the aim of determining the extent of GS variation among them. Karyotypes of individuals with low, intermediate, and high nuclear DNA contents were compared by FISH. Additionally, we used genome scanning approaches to characterise the repetitive sequences in two different diploid accessions.
