The purpose of this study was to examine the general hydrology of Oregon Inlet and the circulation in the vicinity of Roanoke Island along the North Carolina "Outer Banks." Besides these matters being of general interest in themselves, it was thought that in carrying out such a study one could better understand how this inlet influences the salinity of both Pamlico Sound and Albemarle Sound to the north.
