Deciphering Soil Bacterial Community Structure of Lagos Mainland Waste Dump Sites, Nigeria: Insights on Potential Impacts of Different Pollutants from Municipal and Industrial Waste

To gain a better understanding the structure of microbial communities in Lagos waste dumpsites that are exposed different types and concentration levels of pollutants, with a view to identify microbes important in natural biogeochemical cycles that may be adversely affected by pollution, and those that may serve as degraders of environmental contaminants. The study also focused on bacterial alpha and/or beta diversity to answer fundamental ecological questions. This in combination with pollutants composition will reveal the possible impact of the pollutants and its effect on microbial succession and metabolic mechanism. The results obtained can be useful in developing effective in situ bioremediation schemes in polluted sites.
