Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) is a highly contagious viral disease of domestic and wild small ruminants now targeted for global eradication. Extensive quality control of the PPR vaccines available is necessary to ensure the efficiency of the vaccination campaigns planned in the eradication program. Here, we carried out a thorough quality control of the master seed of the widely used PPRV vaccine strain Nigeria 75/1 based on conventional tests and high throughput sequencing. Our analyses confirmed that the PPR vaccine seed held at the Cirad PPR reference laboratory (Montpellier, France) is free from mycoplasma, viral, bacterial and fungal contamination. The full genome obtained for the PPR vaccine batch showed 13 differences in comparison to the sequence version accessible on GenBank for the same strain. This new genome should be used as new reference genome for the PPR Nigeria 75/1 vaccine strain.
