POV, silence area and groundwater, March 2011 (history)

The concept of silence originates in the Law on noise pollution (Staatsblad, 1979). Silence areas were defined as areas in which the noise load due to human activities is so low that the natural sounds prevailing in that area are not disturbed or hardly disturbed. In 1993, the article on silence areas in the Law on noise nuisance has expired and the legal framework is incorporated into the Environmental Management Act.The silence areas are part of the Provinciale Omgevingbesluit Drenthe (Provincial Environment Ordinance Drenthe), of 14 April 2011.
