Velenje 2000

The main research of the Velenje 2000 research project is the survey of the same name Velenje 2000 — Residents on the development problems of the Municipality of Velenje. This central research represents the entire completed sociological work within the research project, which included not only sociological but also economic, economic, architectural, etc. views on the development of the municipality and the city of Velenje. The full sociological report of the research consists of five different completed studies, which, in addition to the researcher, were carried out by his colleagues. One of the tasks of sociologists in the project was to systematise and sociologically conceptualise the problem of socio-spatial development in the municipality of Velenje. In particular, in the light of social territorial development and planning, the question of how certain socio-economic development is expressed in the municipality, in its area, what problems it raises, etc. Furthermore, they also set themselves the task of determining how the specific human artificially initiated nature affects development processes in the municipality and the form of spatial organisation. The research also aims to find important developmental regular mechanisms that identify specific developmental conflicts and contradictions in development. In researching social development in the municipality of Velenje, the research group tended to show the interdependence of development changes in the country, the Republic and the municipality and the intertwining of the determinants of economic and social development. What they took out and thus carried out the research is that the municipality is often in a situation where it simply has to accept and adapt to its superiors. Therefore, an important issue — the global development processes that become concrete in the municipal area — is the subjectivity that influences the direction of the development of the local area. The problem of social development research cannot be countered solely to economic development, so social development has been measured as social security that stimulates or inhibits general development. At the same time, significant socio-spatial dimnesia such as nutrition, housing, health and leisure and recreation were also used as indicators of social development. In taking into account the qualitative objective components of social development, the specificity of the municipality of Velenje was also taken into account when measuring social development. For example, the proportion of daily emigrants, the proportion of young women in relation to the total population, the share of the rural population, the proportion of active employees, the number of persons per betting activity, the average size of the dwelling, the school education of the population, etc. In the last part, the research also focused on the analysis of the living environment, especially in terms of long-term development perspectives and planning of the living sphere, the sphere of work and production. Epistemologically, the purpose was to relativise the strict division into the sphere of production and reproduction, or the sphere of production and consumption. The purpose of the research was primarily to determine the factors of the development of an industrial or capitalist society, how the division of functions occurs and how the sphere of living (sphere of production) of a certain production function takes over. Thus, for the development of the Municipality of Velenje, a specific spatial planning is important, which is intertwined with an atypical relationship between the working and living spheres, atypical for the stage of industrial development, urbanism and post-industrialism. Therefore, it is important that we also included the question of living space in the research, since in the case of Velenje it is obvious that there is a close connection between the working environment and the living environment, which is often unhealthy and in most cases already exhausted.
